The herbalist

Meet the Herbalist

Hi, I'm Mary Johnson. From spring to autumn, my garden is one of my favourite places to be. Surrounded by plants, I find calm and inspiration — whether I'm planting new ones for remedies or harvesting fragrant sprigs for a meal. There's something special about using herbs straight from the garden, a simple pleasure I try never to take for granted.Herbs and gardening are more than hobbies; they shape the way I live. I spend time learning about plants, collecting seeds, and thinking of new ways to bring their benefits into daily life. Most importantly, my faith is at the heart of who I am. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I try to let His love and guidance shape everything I do.

About Be Merry Apothecary

Be Merry Apothecary is a home-based business born from my enthusiasm for holistic healing. After a discouraging experience with conventional healthcare, I discovered the profound benefits of traditional herbal medicine — and developed a deep desire to help others find natural, compassionate support.Trained as a Community Herbalist through Pacific Rim College Online in Victoria, BC, I create remedies using high-quality ingredients that support each person's unique story and needs. My mission is to offer a gentle yet effective alternative to the impersonal approaches of modern medicine — fostering healing through care, connection, and the natural gifts of plants. Many of the herbs I use come straight from my own garden, where I grow and tend them with the same care I put into every remedy.

"A merry heart does good like a medicine." — Proverbs 17:22

Be Merry Apothecary was founded on this timeless truth: that joy and wellness are deeply connected. My desire is to nurture that connection — through the restorative power of plants, heartfelt care, and the gentle art of pausing to listen to nature and one another within God's beautiful creation.

What's in the Apothecary

At Be Merry Apothecary, I keep a plentiful supply of herbs, but my selection of herbal products is limited. This is because I prioritize using only natural preservatives, which means my products don't have a long shelf life. For oil-based items, I typically use only vitamin e as a preservative, if any at all. Water-based products, however, require preservatives to prevent spoilage; without them, they would last no more than a week in the fridge. My goal is to honor and utilize my herbs wisely, minimizing waste, which is why I include preservatives in my water-based formulations. All herbal products are made with organic herbs and in small-batches. Some of the products use herbs from my own garden, such as lip balms and the cough elixir with thyme and elecampane.

Until I have an online store, please contact me to inquire about what products I currently have. Send me a DM on Facebook or Instagram, or drop me an email — I'd love to hear from you.The Apothecary Shelf features my most loved and regularly available products, along with a few new ones (baby balm, cough elixir, and warming joint cream). I also create teas, tinctures, capsules, and custom herbal formulas tailored to your individual needs — just ask.
